One flight saved my life; a second
flight restored me.........
In 2002, Paul was involved in an industrial
accident losing his left hand, fingers and thumb of the right hand
and left leg below the knee. He would have died but for the NWAA who
airlifted him to Preston Royal Infirmary where he was stabilised.
A second NWAA flight took him to Wythenshawe hospital where he underwent
22 hours of micro-surgery, replanting his left hand and the index,
middle and ring finger on the right hand. His right thumb was replaced
by the big toe of his amputated left leg. Due to unprecidented expert
surgery he is now restored to a normal life.
Paul has remained positive and equally
important, active. His last challenge was to cycle the length of Ireland,
Mizen to Malin Head (415 miles) during a week in July 2004 with a
group of old school mates to raise funds for the Air Ambulance.
